The main gateway is Guwahati Airport (Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport) in Assam, about 100km (3 hours) from Shillong. Shillong Airport (Umroi) is 35km from the city center but has limited flights.

Guwahati Railway Station is the nearest railhead, well-connected pan-India. From Guwahati, taxis, shared cabs, and buses run frequently to major towns in Meghalaya.

National Highway 40 connects Guwahati to Shillong. Taxis, state-run and private buses, and even bike rentals are available for a scenic drive to the state. Entry points observe standard protocols, so carry government-issued IDs.
