Cabs or local transport can be taken from Shillong or Guwahati to Smit, the nearest major village. From Smit, it's a 15-minute drive to the canyon. There are no direct local buses, so hiring a taxi or booking a day tour is the best option.

Laitlum Canyon is located in the East Khasi Hills District, approximately 25 km from Shillong.

It is advisable to arrange for a local tourist buddy or guide who is knowledgeable of the location and the language.

How to Get There

Shared vehicles to Sohra (Cherrapunji) are available from Bara Bazaar or Anjali Taxi Stand in Shillong.
Stop just before the Duwan Sing Syiem bridge, valley views and ziplining are visible from the roadside.
Public transport is limited late in the day, if you don’t have a vehicle, try to head back before 4 PM.
