A cultural celebration accompanied by dance, music, Khasi cuisine and an array of cultural ceremonies, Shad Suk Mynsiem is the most significant festival of the Khasis.
Overview
Also known as “the dance of peaceful hearts”, Shad Suk Mynsiem is an agrarian festival.
It is a three-day cultural celebration.
The festival is celebrated after the harvest and before the sowing season.
The positioning of the dancers reflects the state’s matrilineal practice, with maidens in the middle and the turbaned men surrounding them.
The festival displays the traditional attire of the Khasis and their unique ornaments made of gold, silver, and coral beads.
The festival also showcases traditional artefacts such as the Waitlam (sword) and Symphiah (whisk).
